Qantas is adding more flights between Australia and New Zealand, offering approximately 60,000 additional seats over the peak summer holiday period compared to last year. This expansion gives customers greater flexibility and more travel options during one of the busiest seasons for trans-Tasman travel.

The increased services will be introduced on the following routes:

Sydney – Auckland: Up to six extra flights per week, a 16% increase

Sydney – Christchurch: Up to seven extra flights per week, a 47% increase

Sydney – Wellington: Up to five extra flights per week, a 31% increase

Melbourne – Auckland: Up to seven extra flights per week, a 23% increase

Melbourne – Christchurch: Up to three extra flights per week, a 26% increase

Melbourne – Queenstown: Up to two extra flights per week, a 50% increase

Brisbane – Queenstown: Up to three extra flights per week, a 75% increase

This boost will see Qantas operate over 3.3 million seats across the Tasman between January 2025 and January 2026, supporting tourism growth and strengthening connections between Australia and New Zealand.

Adding to the enhanced schedule, Qantas plans to introduce its Boeing 787 Dreamliner on Auckland-Brisbane flights. This upgrade will bring Premium Economy to the route and increase premium seat availability by up to 80%. The Dreamliner service will start with three weekly flights in August 2025, increasing to daily from October 2025. This will be Qantas’ second 787 Dreamliner service between Australia and New Zealand, alongside its existing Auckland-Sydney flights.

CEO of Qantas International, Cam Wallace, stated: “This year has already seen huge growth for Qantas Group in New Zealand, from new route announcements to ongoing Auckland lounge refurbishments and upcoming Jetstar trans-Tasman launches. We are excited to offer even more flying options for customers, giving us the most frequent flights between Australia and New Zealand during the peak travel period.

“This capacity boost adds nearly 60,000 seats compared to last summer, providing customers with more convenience and choice, while supporting tourism and economic growth in both countries.”

Tourism New Zealand’s Regional Director for Australia, Andrew Waddel, added: “We’re thrilled to see more travel options for Australians heading to New Zealand this holiday season. With increased capacity across all four major ports, travellers have greater flexibility to explore Aotearoa’s stunning coastlines, world-class cycling, and renowned food and wine experiences. The longer summer days and warmer weather make it the perfect time to discover everything New Zealand offers.”
