Operating three times a week with Jetstar’s 787 Dreamliners, the new direct flight service will carry more than 100,000 passengers annually, marking the first direct flights between Brisbane and Bangkok in almost five years.
With a flight time of just over eight hours, this non-stop service will significantly cut travel time compared to current indirect routes, making it faster and more convenient for Queenslanders to reach Thailand’s capital.
Inbound passengers on Jetstar’s new Brisbane to Bangkok service will also contribute to Queensland’s visitor economy as part of a broader expansion of Jetstar’s services in the Sunshine State.
Since the pandemic, Jetstar has launched 13 new domestic and international routes from Queensland, including flights from Brisbane to Osaka, Tokyo, and Seoul. Brisbane to Bangkok marks the 14th new route for Jetstar this year, with four routes introduced in just the past two weeks.
To celebrate the highly anticipated new route from Brisbane to Bangkok, Jetstar offers one-way sale fares starting at $292^, available until midnight tonight at jetstar.com.
Ted Knight, Jetstar’s Head of Network, Fleet Strategy and Planning, highlighted that the new flights align with the airline's commitment to making travel more affordable for Queenslanders.
“This is our 20th Brisbane route following a period of massive expansion of low fares flying on Jetstar out of Brisbane and across the Sunshine State,” Knight said. “The last time Queenslanders had a direct flight to Bangkok was before the pandemic, and our sold-out inaugural flight shows Jetstar’s low fares to Thailand’s capital will be popular.”
Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaf noted that the new flights are one of the final pieces of the post-pandemic recovery puzzle.
“Bangkok has been one of the most frequently requested services over the past three years, so it is no surprise that this flight is sold out, like other recent launches by Jetstar from Brisbane,” de Graaf said. “Queenslanders have embraced the great value Jetstar offers, propelling it from Brisbane Airport’s 7th biggest international carrier to number 2, and we look forward to more destinations in the future.”
First Jetstar Auckland to Sunshine Coast Flight Touches Down
In a further expansion of its services, Jetstar’s inaugural year-round direct flight connecting Auckland to the Sunshine Coast arrived this morning. The three-times-weekly trans-Tasman service is the first of its kind, marking a new travel option for passengers looking to explore Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
Passengers on the inaugural flight were warmly welcomed by the Sunshine Coast’s iconic surf lifesaver community, enthusiastic locals, and a reception that truly reflected the region’s welcoming spirit.
With three flights per week—on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays—the new route will add over 58,000 low-fare seats annually between Auckland and the Sunshine Coast. Jenn Armor, Jetstar’s Executive Manager of Customers, expressed excitement about expanding the airline’s network from the Sunshine Coast.
“The Sunshine Coast is one of Jetstar’s most popular destinations, and we’re thrilled to launch these new routes, bringing even more visitors to this beautiful part of the world,” Armor said.
“The new service will not only benefit tourists but also help connect the Sunshine Coast’s large Kiwi ex-pat community with their home country.”
